Every year you are faced with the challenge of coming up with birthday party ideas that must be better than the previous year's birthday party.
It would just be fine with you to just go out and have dinner at a fancy restaurant and be done with it but no, your child expects a party at home with his friends coming over and everybody having a good time.

So what needs to be done? You can't play the same old games from last year. It will already be 'old'.
To start, you have to make sure you are planning your child's party the right way. Ask your child what theme they prefer, if they want to have a particular theme. Older kids might not find this as appealing as to a younger set of children. They might want a pool party instead or a sleepover party.
Make a list of games that can be easily adopted indoors if the party needs to be moved inside the house, in case of rain for example.
If your party has a theme, adopt the birthday cake's design to it. Birthday party ideas need not be based on popular thematic parties. You can modify party activities to better suit your child and his friend's interests.
Also, be careful to avoid any lull in the party by having icebreaker activities. Karaoke is a good way to have fun. Everybody sing to their heart's content and nobody needs to be good singers, this part of the fun.
The kids can stage a fashion show, so this would mean ransacking your closets if it's alright. Have an impromptu dance party, make a birthday movie, etc.
The real key to a great birthday party is knowing how to have fun.
